KSSSA national ball and racquet games as well as swimming will be held in Nakuru between 9 and 12 September.
Renowned handball youth coach Gerald Juma is not letting the long layoff from School Games action stop him from setting ambitious targets for his side Mbooni Boys as the ball games begin.
The zonal competitions begin next weekend, paving way for the sub county competitions before schools break for mid-term on election week.
Juma's charges who take part in the national Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league warmed up for the school games with victory against Boomerang in the league on Sunday 24 July.
"The school games are a different ball game but taking part in the national league has helped a great deal in preparing the boys. They are now more confident and can take on any opponent. This gives me confidence to set the target of the East African title," offered Juma.
Moments after subjecting Boomerang to their second loss of the season, Mbooni who go by Makueni Bees in the league played a friendly match against Strathmore University, going down 27-24.
"The encounter against the varsity side cements my belief in my players ahead of the Kenya Secondary School Sport Association (KSSSA) games.
That said, we will continue with the League matches when possible as they are helping me build the team. Luckily the initial stages of the school games are scheduled for on week days so that gives us a chance to honour our league matches," Juma explained.
Ministry of Education released a calendar for its co-curriculum activities on 13 July detailing dates when the national and regional competitions will be held.
According to the calendar the KSSSA national ball and racquet games as well as swimming will be held in Nakuru between 9 and 12 September, paving way for the East Africa School Games set for 15 to 23 September in Arusha, Tanzania.
In 2019, Mbooni Boys reached the national games for the first time and went on to make the handball final, losing to Kimilili Boys. The two sides represented Kenya in the East Africa School Games with Juma's charges losing in the semis.
